Joint Project: Digitalization in Education (DAB-J)
The joint project provides key insights into extracurricular learning and learning with digital media. From this, guidelines and recommendations for action for schools and youth work will be developed. In this way, the research project develops relevant basic principles for educational practice and contributes important findings to a successful digital transformation and the future sustainability of education in Germany.
Brief Description
Young people use many of the opportunities offered by digital media to learn outside school, for example through explanatory videos and tutorials. Unlike learning at school, however, little is known about how exactly learning outside school via digital media works. However, this is precisely what is highly relevant for the control of educational processes and for the best possible promotion of learning.
This is where the joint project of RWTH Aachen University and the University of Bremen comes in. The interdisciplinary team of researchers is investigating how learning and education works for young people outside school using digital media, for example in explanatory videos, forums, blogs, or tutorials on YouTube. In addition, the researchers are also interested in examining the interplay between school and extracurricular education from the perspectives of (subject) didactics, media education, and communication and media studies. The research team at RWTH Aachen University coordinates the network of project partners.
